Reflection 1: 2/3/12
This week of the first full week of the third marking period, we talked a lot more on geography and the civil rights movement. I learned that discrimination was and still to this day is kind of a big deal. People do not realize how they act when it comes to certain scenarioes and judge from what they are not use too. We also did a small skit on the civil rights movement. My part addressed the opening. I was the lead star. My group was Corey, Alyssa , Ethan and Adriel. I had a lot of fun and hope to do more things like this again.
Reflection:2 2/10/12
This week in class, we discussed in a more depth about The Civil War. This week was probably the most fascinating weeks we have had and during this week we had a lot of social time, On Monday we basiclally just disscused more about segregation and desegration. Also, we covered some topics about little rock 9. On Tuesday we had a Skype day with some kids in Ukraine who are learning to speak the amazing language of English. It was a lot of fun, mostly just introduction day. On Wednesday we had a guest speaker, Dolores Ziegler. That was Jacilyn Cicone's grandmom who talked to us about the time periods since like the 1950's. Thursday we did a packet on the Civil War and how segregation was aided by the people. Very interesting packet, I actually enjoyed reading it..
Reflection:3 2/17/12
THis week we did not have a lot of actual class time because we have been presenting our Civil Rights projects. The projects are very helpful in understanding the entire concept of civil rights. I had to do my project on Emmitt Till. I chose Emmitt Till aas the topic to do my project on because he was involved in one of the most controversial court cases in history. Emmitt was brutally beaten and killed by two white men at the young age of 14. The case was brought to court and the men were proven innocent by an all white jury. During Emmitts funeral it was open casket and after seeing the way Emmitts body was mutilated they saw how unfair the ruling in the trial was. The case caused many civil rights uprisings.
Reflection 4: 2/24/12 This week we had an "Essay Test" on the civil rights projects presented last week in class. Jeff and I wrote our essay with a lot of detail. We also tied Martin Luther King Rosa Parks and Malcom X into the essay. The main topic of the essay was the ways they all protested the unfairness of segregation. This test makes a lot of sense to me because it is about everything we have done our projects on. I would not mind having more activities like this in the future.
Reflection:5 3/2/12 This week sadly i didnt go to third period at all. There was HSPA testing almost every day.
Reflection:6 3/9/12 This week was finally a full week without any days off or interruptions. On monday we watched a video about Joseph Kony. An evil man who taks children from their parents and forces them to be child soldiers. Kony has stolen thousands of children without facing any punishment. It is our job as citizens of the united States to make his name known and to do everything we can to stop Joseph Kon
y. Also this week we went to the computer lab to work on our websites. This was not possible though because yola will not let me update my site while at school. This made me very mad because I already feel that the whole website idea is unneccessary and with all of the technical difficulties i have been having it only makes me dislike the idea more. I have realized that complaining will get me nowhere though so i am just trying to do my reflections from home.
Reflection:7 3/16/12 THis week we got to go to the computer lab almost every day to work on our partner Vietnam project. My parter is Vince Peneno. I dont really know him too well but i will hopefully enjoy doing the project with him. I have to get ten pictures for the Americanization phase and five pictures that represent the Vietnamization phase. It does not seem like a hard project to me but i do not really like the idea of working with someone in a diifferent class. I would have benefitted just as much if i could do it with a partner and have class time on it with my partner.
